Research shows how war, anti-gender policy and repression reshaped the legal, social and psychological lives of queer women in Russia.
This research considers how the anti-gender turn, the militarization of the state and society, state propaganda and disinformation, the adoption and implementation of federal laws “on the prohibition of LGBT propaganda among people of all ages” and “banning gender transition”, as well as the Russian Supreme Court’s decision recognizing the non-existent organisation “International LGBT Movement” as an extremist, have changed the lives of queer women.
This is the first complex research on how all these factors influence the group of queer women in Russia. It observes legal, social, and psychological transformations affecting queer women in Russia since the beginning of the full-scale war, and concludes with recommendations for addressing the situation.
