PRIDE UNDER PRESSURE - Queer Resilience in Central and Eastern Europe, Caucasus, and the Baltic States, 2025
Since 2020, a rapidly shifting global landscape marked by the pandemic, Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the rise of the extreme right, and increasing democratic fragmentation has intensified pressure on civil societies and put LGBTIQ+ communities at risk. Under extreme and hostile conditions, LGBTIQ+ activists across Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and the Baltic states have adapted through resourceful and strategic organizing, including underground and exile-based activism.
This publication shares their firsthand accounts, highlighting both the challenges they face and the resilience they demonstrate, offering valuable lessons for international solidarity and the broader struggle for human rights and democratic values.
